Wadjemup Hill Eco-Retreat

Situated in the centre of the Island, Wadjemup Hill is iconic for the Wadjemup Lighthouse, the first of its kind on the Island, and a couple of heritage military structures. While the Lighthouse is an appealing feature on site with daily guided tours, the Hill lacks other supporting facilities and activities, limiting the amount of time visitors spend on site. The heritage buildings on the Hill, the Battery Observation Post and the Watch Tower, are abandoned without a modern function.

Acknowledging Wadjemup Hill's central location and its status as the highest point of elevation on the Island, we believe the site has potential to be an defining location for travellers who venture away from the Main Settlement, as well as a marvellous scenic spot.

The Wadjemup Hill Eco-Retreat is based to focus around the heritage structures on site, with the Lighthouse being the very centre of the retreat. All areas of interest are connected by a timber boardwalk, that wraps around and follows the contours of the Hill to act as a part of the landscape.

  2. A time-line musuem, a repurposed facility that was once the Battery Observation Post.

  3. An eatery / bar, a repurposed facility that was one the Watch Tower.
